Amazing facts about the asteriod that will pass earth today - Teknoteable

    Asteriod

Astrology is an interesting and delicate scientific study which looks humongous and confusing to mere person.

But apparently everyone has taken interest in it due to the fact that an asteroid has been predicted to pass the earth this month.

Asteroids are rocky worlds revolving around the sun that are too small to be called planets. They are also known as planetoids or minor planets.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) recently shared an incredible photo of how the asteroid which has been named 1998 OR2 looks like.

The agency also gave some interesting information about the asteroid which will pass planet earth tomorrow.

    1. The asteroid has been nicknamed 1998 OR2.

    2. It was discovered on 24 July 1998.

    3. Its predicted measurement is between 1.8 km - 4.1 km in diameter.

    4. With a predicted diameter range of 1.8km - 4.1 km the could be five times bigger than the tallest building in the world which is the Burj Khalifa located in Dubai.

    5. 1998 OR2 will be travelling at staggering speeds of 19,438 miles/hour - that’s around 9.5 times faster than a bullet!

    6. The asteroid won’t be visible with the naked eye, only by the use of a telescope due to how far it is.

    7. It will pass planet earth around 11:00 GMT and will be around 3.9 million miles from Earth.

    8. According to NASA the asteroid looks to be wearing a mask from the pictures seen.

The asteroid won't strike the Earth and the chances are extremely low, but a strike by an asteroid of this size would be "large enough to cause global effects" according to NASA.

However, NASA hasn’t written off the chances of an asteroid collision in the near future.

The last universal object to hit earth was a meteoroid 'Chelyabinsk meteor' in February 2013.

NASA discovers around 30 new ‘near-Earth objects’ (NEOs) every week, and at the start of 2019 had discovered a total of more than 19,000 objects.
